Do you have any large altered books available for sale? Do you take commissions?

Large books available for sale are always listed here on my Etsy page. If you don’t see any on there, I’m probably in the process of making a new one. As of March 2018, I am accepting applications for commissions through this form.

When will you have altered books listed?

I work full-time outside of book making and can only manage to create a few larger pieces per year. I also have to work very slow on the books to prevent tearing, so it is difficult to determine when I will complete pieces. I appreciate your patience!

How do you choose the books that you use? Why do you cut them up?

All of the books I use for my art are discarded hardback novels, which I often have to repair in order to carve. I make sure they are not valuable beforehand. Many damaged, unread books end up in landfills or left forgotten to collect dust – this is my effort to both reuse and give them a new life.

What materials do you use?

I use Micron Pens, Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils, an x-acto knife and glue.

How many hours in total does a large book take to finish?

Roughly anywhere between 25-40 hours of working time, depending on intricacy. I generally need up to 12 weeks to complete a book (the gluing portion takes forever).

How much does a large altered book cost?

Non-commissioned, personal books are priced at 600 US Dollars. Commissioned works are priced at 800 US Dollars.
